When I first painted this, it was more dynamic in marks and I thought the painting was complete. I loved it, yet something inside me knew it still had more to say. I chose to trust the process. I continued pushing the painting beyond what I thought it could become.

By quieting the painting in areas it started speaking a story.  This was the painting where I mastered veiling. As began quieting areas by veiling back layers I was allowing silence to become part of the story.

With every layer that disappeared, something more meaningful emerged.

The painting slowly transformed from a collection of marks into a story. The interruptions became moments of resilience. The textures became memories. (from the veiling) The quiet spaces became places for reflection. It was no longer just my story—it became a place where someone else could discover their own story.

That is why I titled it Breath Caught.

It represents those moments in life when we pause, when circumstances interrupt us, and when we stand between what was and what will be. It reminds us that growth often happens not by adding more, but by letting go—by quieting the noise until what truly matters can finally be heard.

This painting taught me that some of life’s deepest moments aren’t created by doing more. They are created by knowing what to leave behind.
