Series: AFTER THE SILENCE

I know what it is to go quiet.
To enter a new place carrying loss.
To feel the world shift beneath me and wonder whether I still belong inside it.

After moving to Knoxville and losing much of my eyesight, I withdrew into a silence I had not chosen. Rejection deepened it. Distance sharpened it. I began to feel erased.

But silence is not the end of my story.

This work is born from what comes after. After the silence, there is remembering. After the silence, there is gathering. After the silence, there is a woman rising back into view. These paintings hold that return. They are layered with grief, resilience, interruption, memory, and strength. They are not about becoming who I once was. They are about claiming who I am now.

I find I am adding once again the letter C, so I sat down with a glass of wine to discover what meaning there was in this for me.....

Claiming space → it’s open, not closed… it reaches outward
Coming back to yourself → especially after silence or withdrawal
Courage → choosing to be seen again
Continuation → your story didn’t end… it’s still unfolding
Curve vs. control → unlike rigid letters, it’s soft, human, imperfect
