The Bloom That Stayed
9 x 12 inches | Acrylic mixed media on paper

Life shifted for me.  I learned to accept this shift and actually embrace the shifting ground around me!

Flowers are fragile and yet strong in stance, fragrance and color!!  This single flower is set against a deep blue-green atmosphere. It is a single pink bloom that sits on it own indicating with both fragility and strength. The surrounding marks, stains, and layered washes create a sense of memory, as though the flower has emerged from something hidden, weathered, or almost forgotten.

I hope to do more single blooms in a series called "After the Bloom" which is secondary to my "Interruption" series. Rather than painting flowers as simple decoration, I feel my blooms are a symbol of survival, tenderness, and hope. The flower is not untouched by its surroundings; it exists within the depth, the darkness, and the movement of the painting just as I have become strong within my interruption.

With expressive brushwork, veiled layers, and emotional color, The Bloom That Stayed invites the viewer to pause and consider the quiet strength of what endures. It is a small work with an intimate presence, created for spaces that need a moment of softness, depth, and reflection.
