The Cello Sang | 30 x 40

There are sounds we remember long after the room has gone quiet.

The Cello Sang was born from the memory of my father and the instrument that became part of the landscape of my childhood. I remember the cello not simply as music, but as presence—the weight of its voice, the movement of the bow, the spaces between the notes.

In this painting, lines move like fragments of a melody remembered rather than heard. Layers are built, obscured, scraped away, and allowed to surface again—much like memory itself. The darker passages hold what has been carried through time, while moments of light suggest something still reaching forward.

The cello is not literally painted here. It exists in the marks, the rhythm, and the pauses.

Perhaps that is what memory does.

It takes something that once filled a room and allows it to keep singing long after the final note.
