What Remained

What Remained considers the things that continue to surface even after we believe we have moved beyond them.
 
Soft layers of sage, turquoise, sand, ochre, charcoal, and warm neutrals are interrupted by drawn lines, scratched passages, and a textured rectangular form that seems to hold fragments of memory within it. Marks appear, disappear, and re-emerge throughout the painting, creating a surface that feels both weathered and quietly alive.
 
This work is about what cannot be completely erased. Experiences change shape with time, but certain pieces remain within us—sometimes visible, sometimes buried, always part of who we have become.
 
What Remained is a one-of-a-kind original and may be displayed alone or as a companion to What Was Left.
 
Together as a diptych
The pair, What Was Left and What Remained, was created as a conversation between two paintings—one exploring what experience leaves behind, the other what continues to live within us. Together, they form a quiet study of memory, evidence, and the traces we carry forward.
