What Was Left explores the fragments that remain after experience has altered us.
Layers of muted green, teal, warm earth, charcoal, cream, and softly weathered neutrals move across the surface through drawing, scraping, texture, and partially buried marks. A darker horizontal structure near the top creates a sense of weight and history, while the smaller perforated form and gestural lines feel almost like pieces of information that have survived.
 
For me, this painting is about the evidence that remains after the larger story has faded. We may not remember every detail, but something stays behind—a mark, a feeling, a trace.
 
What Was Left is a one-of-a-kind original and may be displayed independently or paired with its companion painting, What Remained.

Together as a diptych
The pair, What Was Left and What Remained, was created as a conversation between two paintings—one exploring what experience leaves behind, the other what continues to live within us. Together, they form a quiet study of memory, evidence, and the traces we carry forward.
